Total shoulder replacement is an excellent surgical option for severe arthritis, large irreparable rotator cuff tears and certain fractures. It has exceptional surgical outcomes and can provide long-term pain relief and improved function in the majority of patients.
Accurate implant position is critical to the long-term success and function of a total shoulder replacement. In situations where there is excessive bone wear or a complex deformity of the glenoid (shoulder socket), placing the implants in a perfect position can be more difficult.
With advancements in technology and 3-D preoperative planning, we are able to greatly increase the accuracy of component placement and optimize the outcomes of our shoulder replacements. After obtaining a CT scan, we template the optimum position for the implant. Two-weeks later, a patient specific 3-D guide is created to execute accurate positioning of the shoulder components in the operating room.
Below are examples of us utilizing this technology for our patients.
